When we first went in the first thing I noticed is the gelato/desert kitchen which is right next to the hostess stand. The smells coming from this kitchen caused me to almost want to start dinner with one of the flavors of gelato before anything else. I ended up holding off these urges, but just barely. Our waiter was attentive throughout the meal without being over bearing. To start the meal I had a bowl of the minestrone soup. The soup was nothing special to be honest. I love my soup and this soup didn't measure up in my book. It tasted as if it was made a little too early in the day and didn't have great flavor. This soup was just unremarkable and I wished it was a little better. She started off with a house salad which was a good salad over all. All the ingredients were fresh and crisp so the salad was a better choice than the soup.
For the main course I went with the Pasta Primavera on the recommendation of our waiter. Being a "fat guy" that hasn't come across a meal I didn't like. Between looking at what people at the other tables are eating and blindly picking off the menu I can usually find something I will enjoy. The pasta primavera was an average rendition of the meal. Like the vegetables from the salad they were cooked perfectly along with the pasta which was done well. The worst thing about the pasta primavera was that it didn't look great on the plate. I wasn't going to Angelo's expecting something plated as it would be in a fine dining restaurant, so i feel it wouldn't be fair to knock Angelo's for this. My girlfriend decided to go with the basic Ravioli which she split between the cheese and the meat ravioli. The ravioli's were done well not overly doughy, they had a good mix between dough and filling. Both types were better than average with the cheese ravioli's being slightly better than the meat ravioli.
Now for the final part of the meal, and the one that I had been waiting for since we walked in through the door and smelled the desserts. I went with the Pistachio gelato and Chelsea went with Stracciatella which is an Italian Chocolate Chip gelato. Let me say that neither disappointed. They were both the high lights of the meal. Both were very flavorful and excellent in every way. I think that this would be something I would come back here to eat for this reason. After my experience at Angelo's there are a few things I would change about what I ate, but the saving grace of this restaurant is their desserts and more specifically their gelato. I would even think about stopping in just to get dessert here if i am in the area again. All and all Angelo's is an average restaurant with well above gelato.
